Before
This kitchen had served its owners well for many years, but the time had come for a new look. It was outdated and didn't work well with the trend of modern families spending so much time in the kitchen. The appliances and cabinetry were outdated , giving the whole kitchen a very 1950s feel. The adjacent dining room also wasn't what the owners wanted, so because the house had no true family room, the decision was made to convert the dining room into a great room with visual access to the kitchen.
After
The house was extended to make the kitchen and new family room larger. It's a lofty space with terrific windows allowing great light and views of the backyard. The kitchen , now separated from the family room by a long buffet-style seating area, is large and modern, with state-of-the-art appliances and beautiful Douglas fir cabinets stained an orange-red hue. There's color everywhere: greens, purples, oranges and yellows make it a playful, pleasing, functional space.
