Michael Carlson, architect for the 2009 HGTV Green Home.

Michael Carlson's interest and study of sustainable design principles began in the early 1980s, when he was an architecture student at Ball State's College of Architecture & Planning and The Center for Energy Research/Education/Service. His Sarasota-based firm, Carlson Studio Architecture, focuses on high-performance design with every project the firm undertakes — from government facilities and educational facilities to residential design, office buildings, nonprofit organizations, restaurants, interior tenant build-outs and healthcare facilities, as well as religious architecture.

He has completed successful projects throughout Sarasota County and the Gulf Coast region of Florida and currently holds the distinction for having a project that is the highest ranking Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) project in the state of Florida. Green building remains at the heart of all his continuing education, and he was one of the first architects in Florida to achieve the LEED Accredited Professional designation.
