October 31, 2006/ Many homeowners would like to have a ceiling that evokes the classic look of tin, whether in a new home or when remodeling an older dwelling. Often, however, the price becomes prohibitive. However Acoustic Ceiling Products has come up with a solution that recalls the classic style but doesn’t stress the pocketbook. The firm has introduced a new decorative thermoplastic ceiling panel system that replicates the look of tin and features quick, easy installation.

The Classic Style panels offer the builder or remodeler 19 unique finish selections and 16 embossed designs. Panel designs offer a wide breadth of patterns ordinarily found in tin ceilings. They also come in three designer wood-grain finishes. These include such things as traditional Victorian patterns and Art Deco Designs. Also part of the line are modern contemporary styles designed to add drama to any décor.

Traditional tin ceilings require decades to acquire their patina. These panels have the patina built-in to provide turn-of-the-century authenticity. Finishes range from Bermuda Bronze to Cracked Copper, reproducing the full range of finishes found in traditional tin ceilings. The thermally-infused color finishes are virtually indistinguishable from classic patterns. To round out the line, the company also offers matching grid systems, grid covers and trim in each color and style. Manufactured from composite thermoplastic, the panels are water- and corrosion-resistant.

A hallmark of the material is its ease of installation. The panels fit a lay-in system, or they can be directly applied to the ceiling. They can be cut using a snip, scissors or utility knife. Installers can mount the panels by applying an FRP adhesive with a notched trowel directly to the ceiling surface. A tube adhesive can also be used, but this installation may require additional checking and re-pressing the tiles due to the slower setting period.

Alternatively, the tiles can be installed in an existing or new suspended ceiling grid system. Since grid covers are available to match all 18 finishes, the finished look is a fully-integrated ceiling.

The ceiling panels carry a Class 1 ASTM E85 rating and UL V094 fire rating.
