If there's one thing I keep running into as I remodel, it's that space is at a greater premium than ever.
Whether it's an old house with limited closet or bedroom space, someone converting the guest room into a home office (without losing the need for guest quarters), or a family growing beyond its bedroom space, there never seems to be enough room.
On the other end of the spectrum, some houses are swimming in extra space. But there's so much of it -- the famed "bonus" or "rec" rooms -- that it gets used for everything and the space is quickly inundated with a home gym, ping pong table, laptop desk, and pull-out couch your in-laws or college roommate stays on. Not exactly conducive to order or calm or real purpose.
In both scenarios, there's no truly dedicated spot for in-laws or guests or even new babies. What's worse, there's no room to carve out a full bedroom. That's what I'm dealing with on my current remodel -- but I've found a solution.
No, I've found a super solution -- Old Creek Wallbed Factory's Murphy Bed.
"Murphy bed?" you ask. Aren't those something you'd see in a Jimmy Cagney picture or Little Rascals episode?
Yes, Murphy -- or wall beds -- have been around for a long time.
Old Creek Wallbed Factory takes the concept of a bed-that-folds-down-out-of-a-cabinet, however, to another level. They have several classic styles and finishes, which gives you room to move color-wise, or you can get them unfinished and paint them yourself. There are several architectural styles -- all solid hardwood -- and what I really like is that you can trick them out with side tower cabinets, corner desks or light kits. It's all built-to-order, customizable and affordable.
I also like their customer service. I called to talk through installation details and found the rep knowledgeable about the assembly details. No fuss, no muss.
So not only do you get a solid state, sweetly designed, custom built solution to many-a-remodeling headache, you get great support to boot. Like I said, it's a super solution.
