Here's an idea I could have used about a billion times -- the Metwood Joist Reinforcers. These light gauge steel plates are simple, simply brilliant, and simply easy to install all at the same time.
They're basically steel flanges you glue/screw to a joist before drilling it out (or notching it) for a plumbing (or other) penetration. No more do you have to build headers or bulkheads. Nor do you have to sweat Twinkies gusseting joists with plywood for added support before your plumber Swiss cheeses them. You can use Metwoof Reinforcers with engineered I-Joists, 2x8, 2x10 or 2x12 solid sawn floor systems.
I'm impressed. I'll definitely find a use for these on my next bathroom or kitchen remodel.
