Watch the Video on Green Wood (Southern Pine Assn.)
HOST: Hey, Russell, glad to see you guys at the builders' show. Very interested in your products. Tell us about Southern Pine Council, who you are, what you do.
RUSS: Well, we represent the Southern Pine Lumber Manufacturers. (HOST: Okay.) We're two associations--the Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association (HOST: Uh-huh) and the Southern Florida Products Association. Between those two associations, we represent lumber manufacturers across the southeastern US.
HOST: Okay. Your shirt's green. Everybody's going green. Southern Pine Council. What are they doing to get along with this movement, help builders like me get a little greener?
RUSS: We're presenting our RaisedFloorLiving dot com marketing program at the show today, this week. One of the things we're trying to do is promote the green part of wood. A lot of the industries -- (HOST: It's a renewable resource. Okay.) Exactly. Yes, it's renewable. It's recyclable. It's sustainable. And not only is it all those words, we're trying to tell the story. It starts off as a tree in the forest and we manufacture it into a piece of lumber, and it is returned to the earth at its end of use as a product. (HOST: Right.) So, it's naturally started and naturally ended.
HOST: And Raised Floor Living -- what does that mean?
RUSS: Raised-floor living is the traditional way to build. (HOST: Okay.) Instead of a slab house, it's raised above the ground with a crawlspace. It's a better way to live. It's easier to maintain your home that way. It's a better home altogether.
HOST: Yeah, you get some airflow under there--as a builder, I know. It's a lot easier to change electrical and plumbing and heat and air if that house is raised up off the air.
RUSS: Exactly. It uses lumber, and you know, like I said, lumber is the green product.
HOST: Do you have anything else you want to tell us about? I mean, International Builders' Show is a big showcase. Anything else you want to tell us about Southern Pine Council and the -- this Two-Thousand-Eight Show?
RUSS: Come by. Stop by. We'd love to talk to you and hear what you have to say if you're a builder or whoever out there and inform you of what's going on in the wood world.
HOST: Okay. [END]
