Learn How to Install Tubular Skylights

ODL is now offering a dimmer for its popular Energy Star-qualified tubular skylight.

The new ODL Solar Powered Dimmer enables consumers to control the amount of light entering a room through their ODL Tubular Skylights.

Instead of requiring hard wiring, the dimmer uses solar energy, the first in the industry, resulting in quicker and less expensive installation than competitive products. If interested, consumers can purchase a combination kit that includes the dimmer and a 10-inch tubular skylight.

"The new Solar Powered Dimmer provides consumers with complete control over the amount of natural light they allow into the home and enables consumers to install ODL Tubular Skylights in new areas of the home such as bedrooms, living rooms, nurseries and media rooms where previously an abundance of light may have been limiting," said Randy Brown, ODL's director of marketing.

A three-button remote control operates the shade dimmer from inside the home at the touch of a button. The shade dimmer controls the amount of natural light that comes into the home and is powered by an attached solar panel located in the skylight tube.

The solar panel also powers two LED nightlights that the user can turn on and off with the remote. During the day, sunlight charges the four AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries that power the dimmer and nightlight.

At a time when Americans are spending 20% of their electricity bills on lighting their homes, the ODL Tubular Skylight can cut energy costs by bringing in natural light, said Brown.

The ODL Tubular Skylight can be used to meet the requirements of Energy Star, the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines and the National Green Building Standard. It is also one of the first products in the industry to be "Green Approved" by the NAHB Research Center.
