Atlanta/March 17, 2008/ — Southface and The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (GAHBA) today announced the winners of the 2008 EarthCraft House Builder Award. The EarthCraft House Awards honors builders, developers, renovators and manufacturers that are dedicated to protecting the environment through sustainable design and construction of homes, communities and products.

"EarthCraft House builders are committed to quality construction that protects the planet as well as the pocketbooks of home buyers. The EarthCraft builders who received awards of excellence have earned the respect of the entire housing industry and we are proud to honor their accomplishments," said Dennis Creech, executive director, Southface.

EarthCraft House reviewed nearly 300 program members and sponsors from five states in seven categories before selecting the following winners:

  • The Sponsor of the Year, won by Whirlpool Corporation, recognizes a manufacturer that continues to exhibit its commitment to green standards through the development of energy saving appliances.
  • The Builder of the Year, won by Fortress Construction LLC, acknowledges an EarthCraft House builder that exhibits excellence in building sustainable and energy-efficient homes. Fortress Construction demonstrated exceptional water conservation and tree preservation throughout its design and construction at Callaway Gardens.
  • The Renovator of the Year, won by The Hoots Group, distinguishes an EarthCraft House renovator that is going beyond the established measures to decrease energy consumption in an existing home. The Hoots Group was the only builder to certify all renovation projects to EarthCraft House standards.

Lawrence Brothers won for its infill green development, Morgan Park Place, in downtown Nashville, Tenn.
  • The Development of the Year, won by Serenbe LLC, acknowledges a 100 percent EarthCraft House mixed-use community. Serenbe LLC won for pioneering Transferable Development Rights, which maintains farmland while developing clustered residential hamlets.
  • The Accolade Award, won by Haven Properties, recognizes a member who has achieved national recognition outside of the program. Haven Properties was awarded the Energy Star Builder of the Year for 2006 and 2007.
  • EarthCraft House also introduced a new award in the multifamily category. The Multifamily Project of the Year, awarded to The Glenwood Park Poolside Flats, distinguishes a multifamily project that exhibited superiority through building design and advanced building science technologies. The developer, Green Street Properties, and builder, BurrSon Construction, received awards for their collaborative efforts on the project.
