The first comprehensive directory of Green Building Products is now available through BuildingGreen Inc.

After four editions of GreenSpec for commercial builders, a new directory of environmentally friendly products specifically for residential building is now available. Green Building Products includes more than 1,400 products from the GreenSpec database of green-building products, which BuildingGreen has maintained since 1998.

Green Building Products includes everything from pre-cast concrete foundation systems to recycled-plastic roofing shingles and top-efficiency heating equipment. Products are organized by building component and in the index under manufacturer or product name.

"We are thrilled to finally offer a comprehensive directory of residential green-building products," said coeditor Alex Wilson. "Whether building new or remodeling, this book will play an important role in helping home builders and homeowners 'green' their homes."

In the book's foreword, well-known residential architect Sarah Susanka, author of The Not So Big House, described the book as "a must for anyone—builder, designer, architect or homeowner—who wants to know the unbiased and unembellished truth about what's really 'green.'"

Products are selected for GreenSpec based on criteria that Environmental Building News editors have developed over more than ten years. These criteria include recycled content, FSC-certified wood, avoidance of toxic constituents, reduction of construction impacts, energy or water savings, and contributing to a safe, healthy indoor environment. The fifth edition of GreenSpec was released in February 2005.
