HUMMER (yes, like the big yellow trucks) branded their own laptop computers in 2006 — and whatever you think of the trucks, the computer version kicks. First, they are "ruggedized." They pass mil-spec (military specification) 810F, which means that they are tested to survive — unharmed — vibration, temperature extremes, and multiple drops to plywood over concrete. No problem.
Encased in cool inlaid magnesium housing, this computer lives up to its claim of being rugged. I tested one and did things to it that's send a regular old laptop crying to its mommy. My systems guy took a look under the hood and liked what he saw, too. It's got serious wireless capability, touch-screen, sealed keyboard, and a smart handle system that makes it portable without a case. What's even better is that it is competitively priced with Brand X laptops.
