I immediately see three things to like when looking at the Ridgid MS1290LZA 12-inch dual-bevel slide-compound miter saw: A top-mounted motor, a big fence and a beefy deck. I like the top-mounted motor because that means the saw's design is maxing out cut capacity for framing, tall moldings or any other oddball cut the slider handles. The fence is primo because it serves as sweet backing for tall moldings or stacked framing stock. I dig the deck because it provides a large work-surface cut-almost-everything slider.
But that's just the first glance. The MS1290LZA's dual-bevel feature is totally sweet for molding. The Repeat-A-Cut erasable writing surface on the fence is a nice detail. The saw also comes with Ridgid's Exactline laser, which helps aligning stock and getting accurate cuts according to Ridgid. The laser is easily adjustable to line up with the blade kerf. Add a powerful motor and you can tell from just two looks that beauty is more than skin deep.
