I love smart solutions to new-home design and home improvement challenges. And while I love to figure out, lay out and build stuff to meet my customers' needs, I can be just as happy (if not happier) when the solution comes in the form of an attractive and unique product.
Such is the case with Velux's Cabrio Balcony Roof Window. This thing is a great option for opening up the roof in top-floor living situations: attics, garages with bonus rooms atop, loft areas, Cape-Cod-style houses or any structure with a rafter-framed roof and sufficiently steep pitch. Cabrio is more than a roof window; it's a two part unit — at once roof window and balcony — enabling you to step safely beyond the plane of your roof to grab a breath of great outdoors. I can just picture watching a sunrise or summer thunderstorm from one—gorgeous!
The ventilation and light Cabrio provides are tremendous. The glass is insulated and laminated for energy efficiency and safety. There's a flap for venting when the unit is closed. The glass pivots inward for cleaning. Indeed, Cabrio is a dormer where a dormer can't go.
