I love it when good ideas — and good businesses — start in the field. It usually shows an inspiring level of talent, energy and creativity. Brent Fry, owner of New Concept Louvers, is one of those stories. He was a siding guy who could never find the right louvers for his customers, so — this is the cool part — he started making his own.
Word got around, and now he's got 20 years of quality workmanship under his belt. New Concept provides 400 louver colors that perfectly match every vinyl, steel, and aluminum siding color, according to New Concept. They can be used wood, stucco and brick, too.
What drew me into their booth at IBS wasn't, ironically, their louvers. It was their cupolas and "downspouts." The custom cupolas are glowing with copper details and superior-looking workmanship. And the "downspouts" aren't what you're thinking. Instead of tubes, they're chains and every few links there is a decorative element like a fish or parasol. You fasten the chains to the gutter and to the ground to keep them in tension and the water from rain storm traces its way down the chain — link-by-link. Sort of the way Brent came up.
