2009 NKBA Bathroom Design Finalists

Category: Small Bathrooms -- 2nd Place -- Deco Design
This small bathroom remodel project is located in a 14-story Art Deco building from the 1930s. In keeping with the building's original era, the new owner sought to eliminate the bland 1960s-style bathroom and restore it to an Art Deco classic.

Following the motif, custom decorative ceramic tiles were designed that featured a chevron and swags in black, with red and hunter green accents against a bright backdrop of matte yellow field tiles. Within the black border of the floor perimeter, matte yellow hex tiles complement the unglazed black porcelain hex tile used for the shower pan. A vintage pedestal sink and toilet and a period faucet and shower valve in polished nickel are additional deco accents. An antique ceiling fixture and sconces give authenticity to the 1930s feel of the new deco-styled bathroom.
