2009 NKBA Bathroom Design Finalists

Category: Small Bathrooms -- 3rd Place -- Captain's Quarters
This new pool bath is fit for the Captain's quarters with the elegance of an old-time sailing vessel. The glossy wood paneling and oiled teak vanity exude warmth highlighted by period-style lighting. The blue green glass vessel sink and ship's wheel handles of a wall mount faucet are complimentary accents to the wood-dominant room. An authentic porthole found on eBay made a perfect mirror and focal point.

Exposed shower valves in the small rinse-off shower convey the humble plumbing you would expect to find in a sailor's quarters. The nautical theme is carried through to the towel storage tucked behind the door, consisting of three brass hotel towel shelves stacked one on top of the other to imitate a ship's ladder. Wood and brass are the compatible companions to give this client's pool bathroom a distinct personality.
