2009 NKBA Bathroom Design Finalists
Category: Large Bathrooms -- 1st Place -- A Bath for All Ages
The source of the project was a bathroom 20 years out of date. The goal was to not only update the space, but create a contemporary, neutral bathroom that would be user-friendly for her husband and grandchildren alike.
A clean modern appearance was achieved by introducing angles and a linear tile layout. An asymmetrical soaking tub is reflected in angle by the shower seat. The contrasting effects of 2'x 2' tiles versus micro-tiles and engineered stone versus granite helped convey a spa-like environment. Other details, such as glass fixtures and matte cabinetry, added to this atmosphere. Overall taupe and beige with the opposing honed black granite and carbon porcelain tiles bring interest in color to a neutral space. The asymmetry and colors brought an old-style space to life.
