Towing the Safe Way


  • Tow vehicle with adequate horsepower, torque, weight, length.

  • Vehicle towing capacity should exceed the weight of a loaded trailer.

  • Tow vehicle should have towing capacity higher than the trailer's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating).

  • More torque=Less stress on engine when towing.

  • Get truck with towing package, which usually includes heavier duty components such as the radiator, batter, transmission. Also includes fuses and wiring for lights and other equipment.

  • When backing up with a trailer, put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel and turn the wheel in the direction that you want the trailer to go.
